Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, can enhance the ear's form, location, or proportion. Otoplasty can either address a congenital problem in the ear structure that becomes apparent with development or treat deformed ears caused by injury. Ear surgery gives the ears and faces a natural contour while restoring balance and symmetry.

This procedure is used for fixing overly big ears, also known as macrotia, protruding ears, or bat ears, which can develop on one or both sides to variable degrees.

Protruding Ears (Otoplasty)

For children, this operation is done under general anesthesia, whereas adults can do it under local anesthesia.

By altering the cartilage (supporting tissue), the ears are brought closer to the skull. Incisions behind the ears are typically used to disguise scars in a natural skin fold.

A gauze dressing or bandage may be retained for a week after surgery to ensure the ears heal in their new, corrected position. Strenuous and sporting activities should be avoided for several weeks.
